DAI Activated Alumina Product Responds to PCB
Contamination Problem in
Fish Oil
Supplements
NORCROSS,
GA, MAY 10, 2010 – A recent lawsuit in
California raises attention to fish oil
supplement manufacturers distributing
products containing illegal levels of the
toxic chemical Polychlorinated Biphenyls
(PCBs).
The Mateel
Environmental Justice Foundation conducted
an experiment on 10 different fish oil
supplements that all contained PCBs. Three
out of the 10 supplements drastically
exceeded the California legal daily
carcinogen exposure limit of 90 nanograms.
Dynamic
Adsorbents, Inc. (DAI) a Norcross, Ga.
purveyor of purification products for the
pharmaceutical industry has launched a
product specifically designed to remove PCBs
from substances like fish oil supplements.
PCBs were
banned in the 1970s after being linked to
serious health complications including
cancer, birth defects and disruption to the
endocrine, reproduction, immune and nervous
systems.
“Consumers
who want the health benefits of fish oil
shouldn’t also have to take the health risks
of an extremely toxic man-made chemical,”
said David Roe, a representative for the
founders of the website
www.fishoilsafety.com.
Despite the
ban placed on PCBs over 30 years ago, the
chemical still infiltrates our waterways,
soil and air due to its resiliency.
DAI
manufactures Alumina C, a specially designed
alumina product that is chemically and
physically modified with highly favorable
properties for the collection and isolation
of PCBs.
The
contaminated fish oil commonly used for
health promotion can be passed through
columns packed with the product that
immediately adsorbs the PCBs from the
nutrient rich substance on contact. The
captured PCBs remain in the column and can
be disposed of using appropriate destruction
technology.
“Alumina C is just one example of
Dynamic’s unique ability to produce the
highest quality, lot-to-lot consistency
and variety of alumina in its industry,”
said Mark Moskovitz, President and Chief
Scientist.
DAI is able
to modify the particle and pore sizes of
alumina to specifically deal with a variety
of environmental cleanup and pharmaceutical
purification issues.
“Our
mission has always been and will
continue to be providing the best
solutions to clients to deal with some
of the most pressing issues affecting
the health and safety of people all over
the world,” said Moskovitz.
